The Unknowably Powerful God

April 6th, 2021 – Tuesday Early Evening

“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.” ~Ephesians 3:20-21

What a glorious weekend it was! From remembering our Savior’s suffering and death on behalf of those who were completely undeserving (including us) to celebrating the power and glory of our Lord’s resurrection, how good of a time of year this is! What is even more wonderful is that it is not confined to a certain time of year!!! Jesus’ death and resurrection have forever changed the history, purpose, hope, and eternity of those who confidently trust in Him. Sin, death, and hopelessness have been defeated forever, and those who are in Christ are more than conquerors!

The above verses are a very good end-cap and summary of this weekend for those of us who have our hope and trust in Jesus. They remind us, like Romans 8:11, that God is not dead and those who believe in Him are not either. Jesus is risen! He was dead, but now He’s forever alive because the Holy Spirit of God (who now dwells within us) raised Him from the dead. That power to raise the dead only comes from God Himself and it is that power that is at work in and through us! It is not that we are able to do anything, but He can! In fact, it is not just that He can do something and we cannot; rather, He can do far more abundantly beyond (think exceedingly abundantly) all that we ask or think!

I know I am using a lot of exclamation points, but not as an exaggerated means of grabbing attention that is undue. Listen! God is able to do way more (to use modern lingo) than we can even UNDERSTAND, according to the power (same word used for able above) that works within us (think HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD). Whoa! That means that we who are in Christ Jesus are indwelt and empowered by an unknowably powerful God who is able to do what I am incapable of thinking. WOW!!! It is no wonder, then, that He deserves the glory in His church and in Christ Jesus to all generations (every single one of them) forever and ever! Such power and authority! Such humility and grace! And such a holy and awesome calling we have that we get to believe on Jesus and walk by the Spirit!

He is able and we are not. What a shame it would be to try and live His way without His power! Let us believe (put our confidence and trust in) in Him and not ourselves and let us live by His Spirit. Christ is risen, He is risen indeed, and we can enjoy His abundance of life through His Spirit today!
