God Is So Gracious!

December 10th, 2021 – Friday Afternoon

“Sarah said, ‘God has made laughter for me; everyone who hears will laugh with me.'” ~Genesis 21:6

What a sense of humor God has! What joy He gives – even to those who so foolishly doubt Him at times. Do you recall how Sarah had laughed at the thought of having a child about a year before this passage? Do you remember how she even denied laughing when God questioned her on the reason for it? Now who’s laughing again, not out of foolish doubt, but over the wonderful gift of a newborn son in her old age (and maybe over her own silliness)? Isn’t God gracious?

Have you ever had so much joy that you laughed out loud? Have you ever experienced the goodness and grace of God to such an unimaginable level that you couldn’t help but break out in a jovial and heartfelt guffaw or giggle? God is so good and He is so good at doing things that we might have initially laughed at the thought of. He is so gracious and He is so adept at making us look silly – not because He is meanspirited or vengeful, but because of our own weaknesses and inabilities. We are so incapable, but He is so able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think!

Rejoice! We have the same LORD God as Sarah did as our Savior and Master; we have the same merciful Father and Wonderful Counselor as our Guide and Stay. Let us thank Him for His faithfulness and for the fact that our disbelief doesn’t stop Him from doing what He’s promised. Praise Him that He is much, much greater than we are and that He continues to prove our need for Him! Finally, let our hearts be humble and submissive before Him so that He can do what He wants in and through our lives – for our good and for His glory.
