“Oh come, let us sing to the LORD! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. For the LORD is the great God, and the great King above all gods.” ~Psalm 95:1-3
What a privilege to come and worship the Great I Am together! While every service isn’t exactly the same, we usually have some opening Scripture, announcements, a memory verse, singing, prayer requests and prayer time, and a sermon from God’s Word. May the Lord draw each one closer to Himself and work in powerful ways through His Spirit and Word!
During this joyous Advent season, we have the privilege of reexamining the familiar accounts of the happenings around the first Christmas. As we do, we jump into a sermon titled “Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus – Part 3 – Trust, Obedience, & the Redeeming Grace of God”. Our text is Matthew 1. While the first part of this chapter may seem boring or insignificant, it reveals some important details into Jesus’ earthly genealogy; these details include the reality that God redeemed at least four women and situations in the line of Jesus. In addition, this genealogy shows the veracity of God’s story as it links generation to generation of people across the ages. The second part of this chapter shines a light on the character and trust of Joseph. After hearing the encouragement of the angel of God, Joseph immediately obeyed in bringing Mary home and by not being concerned about the affairs of this life. May our hearts be challenged to trust the Almighty God and Redeemer King who knows us, commands us, and who deserves our praise and obedience.
December’s Memory Verse:
“He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.” ~Luke 1:32
