“Oh come, let us sing to the LORD! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. For the LORD is the great God, and the great King above all gods.” ~Psalm 95:1-3
What a privilege to come and worship the Great I Am together! While every service isn’t exactly the same, we usually have some opening Scripture, announcements, a memory verse, singing, prayer requests and prayer time, and a sermon from God’s Word. May the Lord draw each one closer to Himself and work in powerful ways through His Spirit and Word!
This Sunday we continue our journey through Samuel with 1 Samuel 27 in a sermon that could be titled “The Sovereignty of God and the Foolishness of Man – Me, Myself, and I”. The saga of Saul’s pursuit of David ends with an account the hearkens us back to Chapter 21 of 1 Samuel. David, instead of resolutely trusting in the LORD again takes matters into his own hands and flees Israel for Achish the king of Gath (a Philistine). Then, David covers his attacks against the enemies of Israel by lying to Achish about his warfare. As we dig into this difficult passage, may the Lord have His way in our hearts; may we examine our own lives and entrust ourselves once again to the LORD who rules over all. May He be glorified in us and may we rest in His goodness, grace, and mercy through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
October’s Memory Verse: “But the LORD is in His holy temple. Let all the earth keep silence before Him.” ~Habakkuk 2:20
