Worship Service
June 25 @ 10:00 am CDT
“Oh come, let us sing to the LORD! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. For the LORD is the great God, and the great King above all gods.” ~Psalm 95:1-3
What a privilege to come and worship the Great I Am together! While every service isn’t exactly the same, we usually have some opening Scripture, announcements, a memory verse, singing, prayer requests and prayer time, and a sermon from God’s Word. May the Lord draw each one closer to Himself and work in powerful ways through His Spirit and Word!
This Sunday we dig back into our series on the Church by beginning a journey into Paul’s letter to Titus. Our passage today was Titus 1 in a sermon titled “Godliness – The Verification of A Believer’s Identity”. As we studied this section of God’s Word together, we looked at a bit of the background context for Paul’s letter to Titus before jumping into the first chapter. Paul introduces himself by reminding Titus of his (Paul’s) identity as a slave of God and an apostle of Christ for the sake of God’s people and His gospel. Paul then launched into reminding Titus of his purpose (staying in Crete to help organize the Church) and of the qualifications for elders. We were reminded of the reality that while leaders are required to have these qualities, they are indeed the qualities of godliness for which every believer must strive by the power of the Spirit. Toward the end of the chapter, there was also the harsh instruction regarding those who do not walk in godliness while claiming to know God; this instruction serves to remind us of our need to be reliant on God alone and intentional for His glory in our every thought, word, and action.
June’s Memory Verse:
“But flee from these things, you man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness.” ~1 Timothy 6:11
