“Oh come, let us sing to the LORD! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. For the LORD is the great God, and the great King above all gods.” ~Psalm 95:1-3
What a privilege to come and worship the Great I Am together! While every service isn’t exactly the same, we usually have some opening Scripture, announcements, a memory verse, singing, prayer requests and prayer time, and a sermon from God’s Word. May the Lord draw each one closer to Himself and work in powerful ways through His Spirit and Word!
This week, we continue a series on communication by revisiting two of the passages we covered in the beginning of this series. Those two passages are Psalm 19:14 & Romans 12:9-21, and the title of the sermon is “Heart Surgery – Practically Applying God’s Word to Our Thinking – Part 2”. In the midst of practical instructions that are to be the natural outflow of the gospel in the lives of believers, these verses offer some insight into how not thinking more highly of ourselves actually translates: Instead of loving without depth, we are to love without hypocrisy – abhorring what is evil and clinging to what is good; instead of being self-centered in our service and honor, we are to elevate the Lord (and therefore each other; rather than running away from trial, trouble, and the cares of others and the care for others, we are to embrace them with joy, prayer, tears, humility, and empathy; finally, while this life is filled with hurt, we are not to react to the hurtful actions of others by hurting them back, but by extending to them and showering them with the love, mercy, and abundant grace of God. Each of the areas these verses speak to reveal the heart of a follower of Christ – a heart that thinks of others before oneself and above oneself because that heart has and is being transformed by Christ. May God receive the glory He deserves as we submit ourselves to His Word and Spirit!
February’s Memory Verse:
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” ~James 1:22
